More active - Rare or RareNet?
Wednesday, January 9, 2008
Rumour has it that Rare is planning on re-releasing some of their classic N64 games onto the Xbox 360. Rare has yet to officially comment, but we've heard a peep or two about Perfect Dark, Banjo-Kazooie, and (most importantly) Goldeneye 007 returning with better graphics and updated multi-player for Xbox Live.
More on this as it develops.

If you haven't played GoldenEye Source (http://www.goldeneyesource.com) yet, then what are you waiting for?! The Beta was released this Christmas and is going down well with Half-Life 2 owners the world over.
You should also check out the really rather good remixes available on their Wiki (http://dev.goldeneyesource.com/wiki/index.php/Goldeneye:_Source_Beta_Soundtrack) - a nice blend of classic nostalgia, contemporary trance and even a smidgen of Perfect Darkness.

The New Year brings new management to Rare, as the founders Tim & Chris have left the company. Despite Microsoft's PR slant about moving on to other ventures (http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156140), there is speculation that the Stampers had merely reached the end of their requisite contractual stay included as part of the company purchase 4 years ago.
It's a sad day to see the Stampers exit Rare. From the days of Ultimate they headed one of the industry's most prolific development studios. We wish them the best and thank them for so many great years and great games. We also hope that infusing fresh blood at the head roles at Twycross can help bring Rare back from what even we at RareNet have to admit is a slide into irrelevance (http://ncroal.talk.newsweek.com/default.asp?item=414002).
Mark Betteridge and Gregg Mayles will assume the positions as Studio Director and Creative Director, respectively. Here's to Mark and company parrying the killer combo of commercial duds by bringing back some of the great franchises from the glory years...
